Braves Set 2009 Opening Day Roster
Two players placed on disabled list
ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves set their 25-man roster for opening day before Friday night’s exhibition game at Turner Field. Atlanta purchased the contract of one player, while four players were optioned and three others were re-assigned. In addition, left-handed pitcher Tom Glavine (left shoulder rehabilitation) and catcher David Ross (strained right groin) were placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 2 and April 1, respectively. Right-handed pitchers Tim Hudson (right elbow rehabilitation) and Charlie Morton (strained left oblique) were previously placed on the disabled list.
The Braves optioned right-handed pitcher Manny Acosta, left-handed pitcher Boone Logan and outfielders Gregor Blanco and Brandon Jones to Gwinnett (AAA). Right-handed pitcher Kris Medlen, infielder Brooks Conrad and catcher J.C. Boscan were re-assigned to minor league camp.
Also, the Braves announced that outfielder Jordan Schafer will switch to uniform number 24.
The Braves open the 2009 campaign – their 44th in Atlanta – on Sunday, April 5, at Philadelphia (8:05 p.m. EST, ESPN2). The club’s home opener is slated for Friday, April 10, versus Washington (7:35 p.m. EST, Peachtree TV).
The season-opening roster includes 12 pitchers, two catchers, seven infielders and four outfielders:
