When is this kid's ETA at the big leagues? June this year I'm guess. He's too good to keep at AAA and there's usually at least 1 injury in the rotation by then or 1 guy not pitching well.

June sounds about right to me. I don't really think that Glavine has much left at all, and I've gotta believe that Hanson will pass Jo-Jo in development pretty soon (if he hasn't already). He's been progressing exactly how you'd want a pitcher to, posting up similar numbers in each league as he's been promoted. However, his walk rate HAS been climbing and he can be an extreme flyball pitcher at times. Anyway, he just put up a 5.0IP 0H 1BB 8K line in an intrasquad game against AAA Gwinnett and some fantastic numbers in the Grapefruit League.

Looks like to me we need fresh arms and this kid seems to have one .He seems to be the best prospect in years so lets let him pitch in relief etc and take care of his arm.Dont think he will learn much in Richmond.Lets pitch him now.

Like Tommy Glavine but he cant keep hitters off the board with a fastball timed at 81 mph.I hope he can pick the time and place he hangs them up but I dont want him to tarnish a great career by getting shelled.Hope he can imporve his fastball but its doubtful.

Resigning Glavine was more of an insurance policy than anything. If Hanson isn't ready, we have another option. I personally think Glavine was a bad signing, but that's why I'm not the one pulling the trigger. The first time they have an excuse to call him up, he'll be up.

Once any of the starters get hurt, he'll get called up. I want to see him at AAA, in person, to get a gauge on him myself.......I'm not really buying Frank Wren's pushing this guy as the next Smoltz (or better than Jake Peavy). I see it more of playing it on the cheap, and a guy who could be as good as Jurrjens but w/a big fastball.

First start of the season in AAA: 4.1 IP 3H 0R 2BB 10K 1HBP - 84 pitches 56 of which were strikes. - Only 6 of his pitches were put in play, 3 hits, 1 GO and 2 FO - Over half of the batters he faced struck out (10/19) Not very efficient, but a very dominant start!

He will be here after a couple of Glavine starts. Tommy does not have it anymore. The only reason Glavine was re-signed was fear of fan back lash because of letting Smoltz go to Boston. Last edited on Fri Apr 10th, 2009 10:56 pm by JacketFanForLife |

Tommy G is throwing about 80 mph now, the catchers could almost go out there and catch him barehanded.

Better get the kid up here now since Tommy G is being examined by the arm doctor.Hope Tommy G is okay but with 81 mph on fastball he cant fool major hitters forever.Need help and Hans in the man.

Hanson's second start of the season : 5.2IP 3H 1ER 2BB 7K 95 pitches, 65 of which were strikes 3 GO, 6 FO Unfortunately, Gwinnett was shutout by the Durham Bulls, so Hanson picked up his first loss of the season, falling to 0-1. Ideally you'd like to see less pitches per IP, but he's throwing strikes so there's not much to complain about. Season to date: 10IP 6H 1ER 4BB 17K 0.90ERA

I guess the Braves want him to work on something before they call him up or they are trying to limit his innings. Hanson threw 138 innings last year, so I'd guess that he's on a 170IP limit this season.

Sounds about right to me since you dont want to kill his arm but I would like to see him as spot starter or long relief since its clear Tommy G is about ready to retire.Hanson is real deal it seems and my hope is Braves take him along slow to save a great arm.

Hanson's third start for Gwinnett: 4.2IP 6H 3ER 1BB 6SO He threw 95 pitches, 63 for strikes. Not the best start, but it's good to see that 6:1 K:BB ratio. His stats YTD: 14.2IP 12H 4ER 5BB 23K 2.45ERA

Update: In his first 5 starts, Hanson has put up a 38:9 K:B ratio in 26.2 innings. He also has yet to allow a HR and is sporting a 1.69 ERA. It's still early, but it doesn't seem like he has much left to learn/prove in AAA.

Hanson is 23 years old, its not like he's 19. The Braves need to bring the kid up and cut him loose or they will look up at the standings and be 10 games back and it won't matter.

It's likely that the Braves will wait til June to call him up in order to control his contract for an extra year before he hits arbitration. In a way, the Braves are trading a month of 2009 Hanson for a year of his prime (assuming Tommy makes it that far). Last edited on Sat May 2nd, 2009 06:14 pm by selwonk |
